Football Boot Spotting – Worldwide 22nd and 23rd January 2013
There were a number of midweek fixtures across the globe this week thanks to domestic cup action, the ACoN and teams catching up on league matches. Real Madrid booked their place in the Cop del Rey semi-finals, Lazio drew with Juventus in their Coppa Italia semi- final first leg and there have been a few ACoN fixtures. The undoubted shock of the weeks matches is that Bradford City will take on Swansea City in the Capital One Cup Final.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Theo Walcott were wearing the new Mercurial Vapor IX colourways, Stefano Mauri scored a late equaliser for Lazio in a pair of Predator LZ boots and Emmanuel Adebayor wore a special pair of F50′s. Tiempo Legend wearer Christian Benteke got on the score sheet but it was not enough for Aston Villa.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Plays for: Real Madrid and Portugal
Wears: Nike Mercurial Vapor IX SG Pro Football Boots Fireberry Purple & Electric Green
It has been the first week that players have been officially allowed to wear the new Mercurial Vapor IX on pitch and Ronaldo is the ultimate advertising tool for Nike. Although he did not score, the Ballon d’Or runner-up was influential in his teams progression through the competition.
Theo Walcott
Plays for: Arsenal and England
Wears: Nike Mercurial Vapor IX Football Boots Sunset & Volt
Walcott has shown in recent weeks that if he plays down the middle, he will score. The England forward has settled well in his new boots having scored twice in them this week. We wouldn’t be surprised if he plays a more central role for England in their upcoming fixture with Brazil.
Stefano Mauri
Wears: Adidas Predator LZ Lethal Zone XTRX SG Football Boots Running White, Prime Blue & Vivid Yellow
Mauri popped up to level for his side in the last 5 minutes of the match to hand Lazio the initiative heading into the return leg next week. The Italians choice of boot is popular amongst attacking players, including Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria and Chelsea youngster Oscar.
Emmanuel Adebayor
Plays for: Tottenham Hotspurs and Togo
Wears: Adidas F50 adiZero XTRX SG Football Boots Vivid Yellow, Green Zest & Black
If you look closely at Adebayor’s boots you will notice a bit of extra detail on the side. We believe that the eagle printed on them represents his national side Togo. It was a disappointing start for his side as they lost 2-1 to the Ivory Coast in their opening fixture of the competition.
Christian Benteke
Plays for: Aston Villa and Belgium
Wears: Nike Tiempo Legend IV FG Football Boots Black, White & Electric Green
The Villa players and fans saw their dreams of a date at Wembley ended as they crashed out of the Capital One Cup to Bradford City. They went in to the fixture 3-1 down however Benteke’s early goal had the fans thinking that the comeback was on, although the game ended 2-1.
