Nike Reveal New 125th Anniversary Arsenal Home Football Shirt
What better timing to reveal the new Nike Arsenal 2011/12 Home shirt, than just after beating Manchester United.
Well that’s exactly what Arsenal have done today! Now I know what your thinking… ‘What can you possibly do with an Arsenal Home shirt?’, especially when Nike’s Design team were probably told to ‘Keep the Body Red and the Arms white!’.
However, the new design of the home football shirt features a bespoke Arsenal crest to highlight the heritage and proud origins of the Club which was formed 125 years ago.
Founded in Woolwich in 1886 and called The Royal Arsenal, the celebratory design features 15 laurel leaves to the left side of the Club’s crest to reflect the detail on the reverse of the six pence pieces paid by 15 men to establish the Club – the laurel leaves also represent strength. The 15 oak leaves to the right of the crest acknowledge the founders who would meet in the local Royal Oak pub. Underneath the crest is one of the first recorded motto’s related to the armament and battle – ‘Forward’ – with the anniversary dates of 1886 and 2011 either side of the heart of the logo.
Despite the new shirt, I think the main issue on most Arsenal fans minds at the moment will be ’whose name can I have printed on the back of the shirt?’.
Well, with frustrated claims from Arsenal fans saying the squad is too lightweight combined with rumours that Cesc Fabregas could be moving to Barcelona and Andrie Arshavin’s possibly going back to Zenit, your guess is as good as mine!
